A Journal

"I'm going to come back to West Virginia when this is over. There's something ancient and deeply-rooted in my soul. I like to think that I have left my ghost up one of those hollows, and I'll never really be able to leave for good until I find it. And I don't want to look for it, because I might find it and have to leave".----Breece D'J Pancake, in a letter to his mother.

Not A Dear Mom and Dad Poem,

Today at MFA Camp the white people, the people who think they are white debated negro vs. negra, they said ni**a too.  I wonder what they would have said if I wasn't in the er-oom.

Please send a note so I can be excused when the white people, the people who think they are white, find pity and delight in being this kinda awful right.

Love,
Crystal

Not A Boyfriend Poem

i had a boyfriend once
we never saw each other
well, not that much
he sent me text messages
they were like kisses
it was an easy relationship
i could delete him
or save him
to pick him up in the middle of the day
think and rethink what did his hey
really mean.

we’d say good morning
days would pass before we said good nite
it was pure anticipation waiting on his vibration.

i gave my boyfriend all my quick wit
(that he never really got)
sent him all my cute and sexy pics
we had sext, protected of course
textual healing with me and my boyfriend.

then one day he finally called to say
he would be changing his number.
